Couple years ago, I was diagnosed with high cholesterol, 215. My father passed away at age 41 from heart attack and I am now 37. Needless to say, I decided to make some changes in my life.
I used to eat anywhere from 2 - 4 slices of white sandwich bread every day. I used to drink whole milk and soft drinks like Sprite and Pepsi. One of the changes I made was this Joseph's Pita bread. I could not believe how good it tasted and I was upset with myself for not finding out about it sooner.
This change, along with moving to Fat Free milk and no soft drinks went a long way to reducing my cholesterol down to 185 from 215. I am thoroughly convinced that this bread is helping prolong my life and it tastes better than any sandwich bread I have ever eaten.
Unfortunately, our Walmart here in Leitchfield, KY has decided not to carry it anymore. So now I am having to drive 35 miles to another Walmart. If I have to, I will continue to make the trip, it matters that much.
Since I am on a Gluten Free diet, I have tried many brands of gluten free foods to substitute for the usual breads, crackers, pasta, etc. And while some are not satisfactory in taste or texture, this bread is very good and a stable for my kitchen. It can be frozen and lasts for months. The only thing I've found different about this bread, as opposed to wheat bread, is that it doesn't absorb liquids as quickly -- for example when making French Toast. All Schar products that I have tried have been very satisfactory, and it is a brand name I look for when shopping.
Mestermacher whole grain rye bread is tasty and healthy. Lots of fiber to keep the stomach in order. 12 packages may scare away a smaller household, but not to worry. Put some of them in your freezer. Freezing and thawing does not deminish the quality, nor the taste.
